Hello and welcome to Laura Rowbotham Eventing. I am a professional Event Rider from the Vale of Belvoir, Leicestershire. I run a small team of horses form my parent’s dairy farm and livery stables. I am a very ambitious and up-and-coming rider determined to become one of the country’s leading riders. I would ultimately love to represent my country and win medals! Laura has always had a passion for horses and started riding at a very early age. She learnt to ride on a donkey called ‘Silver’ then progressed to ‘Topper’. Laura soon joined the Belvoir Pony Club and was a member for many years. The Pony Club Championships was the highlight of the year and she went no less than 6 times on 5 different horses. This included the 14 hand loan pony who jumped a double clear in the Open Show jumping when Laura was 13. The team were Reserve Champions. |

Laura competed in many disciplines at the Championships and in 2008 she achieved team 1st and individual 3rd in the Eventing on Woodfield Ria. This was a fantastic moment for the Belvoir as they had entered a team nearly every year but failed to win since the 70’s. Eventing first became Laura’s ambition when she got her 5yr old Connemara pony Foggy Dew. Laura’s first experience of British Eventing was aged 13 when she and Foggy came 10th with a double clear at Buckminster Park Pre Novice (now BE100). Later that year they were 2nd in the Pre Novice Eastern Championships. |

| Laura’s first successful horse was Highdays Hanna, the pair progressed up to Intermediate level and have won 63 BE points together. They represented the Belvoir Pony Club at 2 Championships in ShowJumping and Eventing and in 2006 they got a double clear in both the ShowJumping and Eventing. Hanna was a 5 year old when Laura bought her in 2005 and they reached CIC** level and gained top placings at Intermediate. | ||
Laura took her GCSEs achieving 6 A's and 6 A*'s and then her A levels as a ‘back up plan’ in English Literature, Biology and Chemistry achieving A, A, C. After her A levels, Laura went as a working pupil for Sarah Cohen at Vin Jones’ Preci-Spark Event Horse yard. She helped produce the young horses whilst Sarah had her baby. This season Laura has 6 horses to compete. They range from BE90 level up to Advanced. Woodfield Ria is Laura’s Advanced horse. She has been produced by Laura throughout her Eventing career and completed her first Advanced aged 8, going clear in the X-Country phase. Laura was thrilled to reach this level and compete against famous 4 star horses. |

Laura works hard to fund her Eventing career by teaching and riding for clients. She rides and competes Event horses for owners as well as having her own horses to compete. Laura received all her early training from former Olympic Event Rider Richard Walker. Richard has been her mentor since 2002 and has been a tremendous support and source of knowledge. For the dressage phase Laura is helped by Dressage trainer Andrew Fletcher. Laura has worked with Andrew since 2010 and gained a lot of help and confidence in the dressage phase. In 2011, Laura began training with International Showjumping Trainer Di Lampard. The improvement in such a short space of time has been huge. Furthermore, Laura received jumping training from the Eventing Team’s Showjumping trainer Kenneth Clawson in 2008. Through the Pony Club and Young Rider Programme trainers, Trainers Caroline Moore, Gill Watson and Emma Fisher also helped Laura.The depth and quality of training Laura has received, as well as the secure foundation from Richard has given her the tools to succeed. Now she hopes to expand her team of horses to achieve her goal of becoming one of the country’s leading riders. |
